Salt of the Earth is a Great Places project funded by The Heritage Lottery which sought to increase capacity and knowledge of natural, built, social and cultural heritage by bringing together heritage groups and community councils/representatives to plan and shape projects, and offer community funding through participatory budgeting.
A Heritage Network was established to share outcomes from the project such as films, and to allow heritage groups to share about their work. Salt of the Earth sought to draw greater connections between a number of established heritage groups for greater partnership working and also between these groups and local community settings such as schools, community centres, day centres and third sector organisations
The project was able to produce a number of events, films, walks and trail guide, website, social media, open days, community influence on development projects such as Preston Tower, Prestongrange Heritage Park and Prestonpans Civic Square and training opportunities for heritage groups and the wider community. Funding finished in Summer 2022 and the Heritage Network continues through the Area Partnership.
